Senior Buyer Job Posting 

Job Summary:

The Senior Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing products or services on behalf of the company, working with a wide range of vendors from small local businesses to large multinational corporations. The successful Senior Buyer must be able to read the market effectively and possess strong negotiation skills to know which suppliers provide the best value, and to ensure that the company gets the best possible deals.

Duties/Responsibilities:

The Senior Buyer has a wide range of responsibilities to determine the best sources of supply for each product or service needed by the company, based on price, quality, delivery time, and other criteria. Duties will include the following:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of Summit’s x-ray/ radiographic products and purchasing needs; this includes becoming familiar with the product’s specifications, quality, parts and prices
  • Research, analyze, and forecast current and future buying trends, markets, products, prices and transportation trends/needs 
  • Negotiate with vendors to obtain the best possible terms, first researching possible item selections and taking into account inventory of current products
  • Develop and manage relationships with suppliers to ensure that they provide high-quality products at competitive prices
  • Coordinate the flow of materials and products through the supply chain by communicating with other departments within the organization (e.g., Production, Shipping, Sales, Customer Service, Management, etc.)
  • Maintain desired inventory, providing supply to production in a timely manner
  • Review purchase orders to ensure they are accurate and complete, and maintain an effective and accurate system for monitoring purchase orders
  • Work with shipping companies to ensure that orders are delivered on time
  • May hire, train, and oversee subordinate staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Business, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or related concentration preferred)
  • Five plus years in a purchasing or supply chain management role required
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing environment, and purchasing experience in electrical and sheet metal products or related components required
  • APICS certification desirable

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Syteline or related software

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
