Job Description:

We’re seeking an experienced Accountant to oversee our Accounting Team in the role of Controller. The ideal candidate will have proven manufacturing industry experience as an Accountant in a senior role. The Controller reports to the Vice President of Finance and is responsible for all local accounting activities including budget, financial forecasting, statistical reports, financial reporting / statements, payroll reporting, audits, tax activities, etc. The incumbent supervises all accounting staff at the location including accounts receivable and accounts payable, and has oversight of payroll. The Controller will produce thorough financial-status reports for senior management to help improve our operational efficiency and aid in our continued growth. The individual must be a results-oriented, hands-on professional with the ability to deal effectively with customers, vendors, and employees. 

Controller Job Duties/ Responsibilities:

The Controller will provide comprehensive financial updates to senior management by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points; developing, implementing, and maintaining financial controls and guidelines; and achieving budget goals with proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective action. Duties will include:

  • Push for profitable growth by delivering analysis of financial results; reporting key metrics while advising the leadership team on risks and opportunities (using EBITA to determine profitability)
  • Preparation and analysis of financial statements, including reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts, profit and loss statements, general ledger, month end close processes, and other financial reports
  • Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements while utilizing IT systems to mechanize reporting and facilitate analysis
  • In conjunction with the CFO, establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on a bi-weekly, monthly, and annual basis
  • Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, upholding federal, state, and local legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and future legislation
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow
  • Oversight of weekly payroll, including payroll tax compliance, IRS reporting, and transmission to the GL
  • Administration of corporate credit card charges. 
  • Forecast cash requirements and assist management in budgeting process
  • Oversee annual physical inventory and coordinate physical reconciliation
  • Organize and prepare for various audits of company accounts and comply with any follow-up
  • Oversee Accounting Department, providing guidance to employees, assigning duties, hiring/terminations, employee appraisals, addressing concerns, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Controller Job Requirements/ Skills/ Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or finance, CPA highly preferred
  • At least 5+ years accounting/financial analysis experience within a manufacturing company
  • Strong working knowledge of detailed financial data analysis; federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations; financial reporting and regulatory standards (GAAP)
  • Proven experience with GL, audits, tax reporting, etc., with a focus on streamlining processes
  • Strong understanding of economic and banking processes
  • Must be highly computer literate with data mining and ERP systems, accounting software systems and Microsoft Excel (including VLookups, Pivot Tables, etc.)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, time management and analytical skills
  • Requires deadline driven, high-energy individual able to work autonomously and lead as key contributor on teams
